SFS Group Fastening Technology and Kingspan Insulation have pooled their respective expertise in rainscreen cladding support systems and insulation materials, to launch an optimum performance solution offering A2-s1, d0 reaction to fire  presenting the potential to optimise envelope design on buildings of any height.

The NVELOPE®NVS-RP range of stainless-steel brackets has been developed specifically to retain Kingspan’s latest insulation development – Kingspan AlphaCore®panel silica-based insulation which offers a thermal conductivity of just 0.020 W/mK, with a Euroclass A2-s1, d0 reaction to fire. The slimline material is available in thicknesses of 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50mm with a weight ranging from 3.6-9.0 kg/m2.  AlphaCore® Pad is also water-repellent.

Crucially, the combination has the potential to create far slimmer façades which will withstand the weather as well as optimising energy performance.  This is because, instead of compromising AlphaCore® Pad’s thermal performance with multiple fixing penetrations, SFS has completely re-imagined established components from its NVELOPE® system to absolutely minimise cold-bridging.

The NVS designation describes the range’s existing stainless-steel L-shaped bracket that is available in single or double format and adds three types of RP Retaining Plates: Single, Double and the End Plate.  Their versatility not only facilitates the retention of all the AlphaCore® Pad thicknesses, without the need for traditional fixings, but remains quick and easy to install.

David Fraser, Business Unit Manager for SFS Subframe Systems, explains, “The NVS-RP features a standard bracket any installer would recognise and know how to fix, and it is now paired with a retaining plate featuring overlapping slots so that it simply slides over the top to retain the insulation and, once you hit the sweet spot, you just put in a rivet to hold it permanently..”

Cameron MacBride, the National Façade Manager for Kingspan Insulation, confirms: “Kingspan AlphaCore® Pad provides a balance of both thermal and fire performance, giving designers greater freedom to achieve compliant systems in tight spaces.  Collaborating with SFS has allowed us to find a solution to maximise the thermal performance of AlphaCore® Pad. The NVS RP range avoids having to fix through the board in multiple places, which reduces thermal bridging. This combination of materials will be used where those pinch-points within a structure occur, in areas where land values are high, and the overall wall thickness becomes more important.  These solutions using newer, optimal technologies are therefore going to offer the designer more flexibility in challenging situations, and hopefully boost the lettable or saleable space to its maximum”

A series of technical data sheets explains the configuration and application of the different NVS-RP components, along with the non-compressible thermal pad which helps ensure the assemblies’ performance, while both the bracketry and the Kingspan AlphaCore® Pad insulation will be available to contractors through the two companies’ normal sales channels.

Recticel Insulation is delighted to announce that its Eurothane® GP PIR board has become one of the first UK construction products to receive Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) accreditation.

The verification helps product users to be assured data associated with Eurothane® GP is accurate, up-to-date, clear, accessible and unambiguous. This information is crucial in assisting customers to make more informed decisions in respect of product specification. It will also help improve building standards due to products being used safely and appropriately.

Paul Simpson, Commercial Director UK & Ireland at Recticel said:

“The CCPI accreditation for our product set is extremely good news. We have long been advocates for more clarity with respect to building product information. It will have beneficial ramifications throughout the building supply chain and hopefully lead to more buildings being constructed as designed.”

Initiated by the Construction Products Association’s Marketing Integrity Group following industry-wide consultation, CCPI aligns with Dame Judith Hackitt’s call for a ‘golden thread’ of information as part of her post-Grenfell report into the fire safety of buildings. Dame Judith addressed manufacturers including Recticel at a CCPI Assessment and Verification event held in London to highlight the first products to achieve Code accreditation.

“It was an honour to be invited to attend the CCPI Verification event along with other key stakeholders who share our commitment to higher building standards. CCPI accreditation should be the aim of all construction product manufacturers. It helps to support confidence in a product’s performance whilst providing users with access to verified, relevant knowledge to help them build better, safer and smarter.”

Suitable for multiple applications including floors, pitched roofs and timber framed walls, Eurothane® GP demonstrates a good thermal performance (0.022 W/mK). This, in conjunction with its lightweight, easy-handling properties, makes it an ideal solution for contractors, installers and end users.

The premium thermal performance of Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board has led to it being installed as part of the £440 million redevelopment of Westgate Oxford, a retail and leisure destination in the city centre.

Developed by the Westgate Oxford Alliance and constructed by Laing O’Rourke, the development is scheduled to open in October 2017. It has been designed by Glenn Howells Architects to reflect the heritage of the surrounding Oxford architecture, with an articulated brick façade and a focus on long-term robustness, quality and endurance. This concept was carried throughout the project, leading to the selection of the Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board to ensure the building achieved a high level of thermal performance within a minimal cavity width.

Installed by Kilnbridge Construction Limited on the stair cores at each level, the rigid insulation board has a thermal conductivity of just 0.018 W/m·K, whilst its water-tight, vapour-open polypropylene fleece outer facing allows it to be installed with a 10 mm residual cavity. This combination makes it ideal for projects such as Westgate Oxford, where developers want to meet demanding U-value targets, without moving away from preferred cavity sizes and reducing the internal space.

The Oxford development is expected to achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ for Block 1. Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board can assist, both directly and indirectly, towards the award of credits within the Energy and Materials sections of the assessment. All Kooltherm, Therma and KoolDuct insulation products and cavity closers manufactured at Kingspan Insulation’s facilities in Pembridge and Selby are certified to BES 6001 (Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products) ‘Excellent’.

Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board is BBA certified. Its rigid phenolic fibre-free insulation core is manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and very low Global Warming Potential (GWP). The insulation boards are non-deleterious, easy to handle and install, and are unaffected by air infiltration.
