Constructionline Premier membership confirmed for EJOT and LIEBIG anchors

 

EJOT’s range of high performance concrete anchoring solutions, at the heart of which is its globally renowned LIEBIG heavy duty anchors, is now available for main contractors and public sector project teams to specify and procure with confidence through the Constructionline platform.

In being approved as a Constructionline Premier member by the industry-leading procurement and supply chain management service, EJOT has been verified to operate to the highest ethical and quality standards under the latest membership structure.

Membership to this highest level means EJOT has successfully complied with Constructionline’s enhanced assessment criteria in areas including environmental management, quality management and equal opportunities policies. As a result, buyers involved in major public sector building and infrastructure projects can find valid information on EJOT’s fastening systems, including its market-leading building envelope solutions and LIEBIG heavy duty anchors, in Constructionline’s supplier database.

Originally created as a government department more than 20 years ago, Constructionline supports thousands of businesses across the public and private sectors by connecting buyers and suppliers. It increases opportunities for members like EJOT to access a wide range of procurement contracts and projects, while at the same time giving buyers access to a validated pool of high quality suppliers working to enhanced PAS 91 criteria.

The LIEBIG range of heavy duty anchors has been used globally since the 1980s in wide variety of applications. These include nuclear power facilities, military establishments, tunnels, bridges and other safety critical high load installations and applications.

In the UK, a number of significant recent infrastructure projects have benefited from LIEBIG anchors too. These include HS2, where LIEBIG Superplus BLS anchors provided a versatile solution to securely fix silos at one of the project’s concrete batching plants, and the construction of the Third River Crossing bridge in Great Yarmouth, where LIEBIG Ultraplus anchors were specified to attach the bridge’s lifting, holding and lowering mechanism.

The depth of the assessment and scrutiny involved in the Constructionline scheme means no part of a supplier’s business goes untouched. As part of EJOT’s Constructionline verification process, it submitted a variety of quality specific documentation, ranging from its ISO 9001:2015 certificate and ethical and equality policies, to information detailing the company’s Carbon Reduction Plan 2035 and the data to demonstrate its reduction efforts to date.

VAT cut would spark building boom

Plaid Cymru’s proposal to cut VAT on home renovations would spark a renaissance in the Welsh construction sector, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) Cymru has said in response to the Party’s announcement.

Ifan Glyn, Director of FMB Cymru, said “We welcome the announcement that Plaid Cymru would press the UK Government to reduce the amount of VAT currently charged on domestic refurbishment work. The economic benefits of a VAT cut would be significant and timely, given the uncertainty facing the country as it starts the process of departing the EU. Research has demonstrated that cutting VAT on such work would provide an annual £50 million stimulus to the Welsh economy, revitalising a sector that has suffered decidedly mixed fortunes over the last decade. Far from depriving the treasury of revenue, experience from the Isle of Man suggests that the reduction could actually increase net revenues by boosting demand and cutting out the black market.”

“Moreover, it would provide a necessary shot in the arm in the effort to improve the energy efficiency of Welsh homes and help reduce our carbon emissions. Our housing stock is amongst the oldest in Europe, which is a major factor behind the generally poor levels of energy efficiency in our homes. A reduction in VAT would incentivise property owners into investing to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, thereby cutting energy bills. This could play a significant role in tackling fuel poverty, which remains a serious issue for Wales.”

“A tax stimulus could also yield further dividends in the form of empty homes being brought back into the market. There are currently 25,000 properties that are unoccupied in Wales and which could be fully inhabitable again if the incentive to renovate those homes existed. This would be equivalent to nearly two years’ worth of the supply of new homes that it is agreed Wales needs to tackle our housing crisis. Obviously, Plaid Cymru are in no position to win the General Election, but this policy highlights that a VAT reduction on home renovations is both feasible and highly desirable for the Welsh economy.”

BES 6001: 3.1 Certification Awarded

The impact of our purchasing decisions has never been more critical. Our global economy is now bringing to bear the Butterfly effect: when a butterfly flaps it’s wings in one part of the world it can cause a hurricane in another part of the world. Construction by its nature of increasing or improving density is intensely energy demanding, the embodied energy contained in our building stock has derived from the earth’s resources, therefore, as construction professionals we should all carefully consider the ethics of our purchasing decisions. The materials used on a building draw from the Global economy, therefore a decision today could create deforestation in poorer regions of the world or create the impetus for modern slavery.

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, as a British privately owned organisation has always held its integrity in business as the cornerstone of its operations. Not only does BES 6001 audit and accredit supplier management it delves deeper to ensure that all aspects of global citizenship are covered, these are held under three main headings: Organisational Management, Supply Chain Management and Environmental and Social Responsibility Management. This award is even more noteworthy when we consider that this is the new standard and Comar are the first to receive this in the aluminium sector.
