Polypipe Ventilation, manufacturer of market leading energy saving Domus ducting and Silavent mechanical ventilation appliances, has set up a BIM (Building Information Modelling) Library, available free of charge.

BIM is a government driven shared knowledge resource, providing all of the information about every component of a building, in one easy to access place. It enables construction professionals to digitally model a building and examine its entire life-cycle, from inception and design to demolition and materials reuse. Using BIM data reduces the risk of mistakes or discrepancies at an early stage, making for more cost-effective, safe construction.

The Polypipe Ventilation BIM Library features an extensive array of products, including energy saving, whole house Silavent HRX Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) appliances and Silavent CMX Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) units, as well as award winning Domus Radial semi-rigid duct systems and its full range of Domus rigid ducting and accessories, which incorporates Domus Thermal duct insulation and duct sound attenuators.

BIM Object data on Polypipe Ventilation products includes detailed information such as product properties, geometry, visualisation data and functional data that enables the ?object? to be positioned and behave in the same manner as the product would in-situ. Airflow rates, for example, can be set at each grille or air valve, allowing engineers to easily and more accurately estimate pressure losses and velocities within the ductwork, which isn?t possible using other design packages, such as AutoCAD. Product dimensions are automatically calculated to ensure it fits into the desired design space and even the correct amount of product required is calculated within BIM to prevent product wastage. In addition, BIM enables parts to be automatically scheduled during the design process, for speed and maximum convenience.

UK BIM processes range from Maturity Level Zero to Level Three. Typically, a Level One project will use a mixture of 3D CAD and 2D work and is the level at which most private-sector companies now find themselves. Now required by law for centrally procured public sector projects, Level Two denotes projects where all parties use their own 3D CAD models (although these will not, necessarily, be working on a single, shared model) and design information is shared through a common file format, enabling any organisation within the project to combine the data with their own. It is considered only a matter of time before deadlines are put into place for the rest of the construction industry and beyond to meet Level Two.

Polypipe Ventilation has a well deserved reputation for quality, supported by excellent technical support, from a market leading manufacturer and designer. It is well placed to offer immediate, practical solutions to Building Regulations Parts F & L. The company continues to provide differentiated solutions in the private and social housing sectors, transforming the way developers, specifiers, installers, home owners and distributors meet emerging environmental standards.

345 Silavent Green Line HRX2 Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems from Polypipe Ventilation are being installed into apartment schemes at London’s Greenwich Peninsula – one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe.

The ambitious regeneration scheme will supplement the extensive development that Greenwich has seen to date, including the iconic O2 venue. Once complete, Greenwich Peninsula will include over 10,000 residential units across 51 developments, providing homes for 23,000 residents, as well as 62,500sqm of commercial, retail and office space and 48 acres of green open space.

Polypipe Ventilation’s Silavent HRX2 MVHR systems have been specified by Wates Construction for two key plots, incorporating 201 and 144 apartments. Both plots feature buildings arranged to create a perimeter block and a central courtyard, with surrounding buildings ranging from two storey maisonettes to 11 storey blocks, over half of which are affordable housing.

The Silavent HRX2 units are being installed in utility cupboards within each apartment for easy access with Polypipe’s market leading Domus rigid ducting.

Featuring a heat exchange efficiency of up to 95%, the HRX2 offers the homeowner a year-round ventilation solution. It operates by transferring the heat from the waste stale air extracted from kitchens or bathrooms to fresh filtered air drawn in from the outside. The pre-warmed, filtered air is then distributed to the living rooms in the home. As well as helping to reduce demand on the central heating system, Silavent Green Line HRX2 MVHR units also provide a healthy living indoor environment through continuous balanced ventilation.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the HRX2 is 2010 Building Regulations compliant and has the highest available heat exchange efficiency on the Performance Characteristics Database (previously known as SAP Appendix Q). Featuring the latest fan technology, these units offer an extremely low Specific Fan Power (SFP) down to 0.46 W/(l/s), resulting in minimal energy usage whilst retaining full airflow performance. The distinct moulded EPP casing helps to maximise airflow, as well as delivering improved thermal efficiency, thereby enhancing the recovery of a home’s waste heat.

When used with Polypipe Ventilation’s Domus rigid ducting, insulated by Domus Thermal insulation, as seen in the Greenwich Peninsula development, the Silavent Green Line HRX2 offers one of the most comprehensive MVHR solutions available on the market.

Polypipe Ventilation, manufacturer of market leading energy saving domestic ventilation systems, is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative new Silavent air management controller, AMIE and a new range of Domus duct sound attenuators – designed to provide residents with greater control and comfort over their indoor environment.

The stylish Silavent AMIE (Air Management for Indoor Environments) controller provides enhanced control of Polypipe’s award winning Silavent Green Line HRX and HRX2 Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems. A compact, wall mounted unit, AMIE enables the resident to directly manage the humidity and ambient air temperature of their dwelling through two main MVHR functions: extract fan boost speed operation, to help remove humid, unhealthy air and heat exchanger (summer) bypass to stop the unit from supplying pre-warmed air into the home; making AMIE ideal for summer and night time cooling.

There are often times within a domestic property when increased ventilation (boost rate) is required to remove excess humidity and temperature. Silavent AMIE provides the resident with the ability to boost the air flow through the MVHR system either automatically by humidity level sensing or manually using an external switch or push button. In the case of the latter, the MVHR unit will return to background speed after 15 minutes.

The MVHR unit’s summer bypass facility, which helps prevent homes from overheating during the warmer months – a popular option on the HRX MVHR models, can be more effectively controlled automatically using Silavent AMIE by room temperature sensing or programmed time settings. As households perceive what is a comfortable indoor air environment differently, AMIE very flexibly offers nine, easy to use pre set programmes to select from and a further four user defined bespoke programmes available with clear on screen instructions to follow.

In addition, Silavent AMIE has the option to proactively provide an MVHR filter cleaning reminder every 3,000 hours (approximately four months) and replacement reminder every 9,000 hours, helping to ensure healthy and clean indoor air quality is maintained

The second most recent key product launch for Polypipe Ventilation is the Domus duct sound attenuators, often referred to as Silencers, which offer improved sound attenuation and thermal insulation.

Domus rigid duct sound attenuators provide a simple, cost-effective solution to reduce nuisance noise from whole house mechanical ventilation systems which connect to a centralised appliance ducted to a number of different room outlets (such as an MVHR system). They effectively absorb sound over a range of audible frequencies, including traffic noise, noise from the ventilation fan and room to room cross talk. Building on the success of the previous sound attenuators, the new range provides greater sound attenuation than ever before, reducing noise levels by as much as 50dB; most importantly at the audible levels that are most commonly heard about the home.

Incorporating rigid duct sound attenuators into a whole house system is not only beneficial for home occupants but also helps installers and developers meet Building Regulation recommendations, which advise the system should not produce excessive noise as this may lead to the user adjusting the system detrimentally.

Third party verified by the Sound Research Laboratories (SRL), the new Domus rigid duct sound attenuators, which are designed for use with Polypipe’s most popular rectangular 204x60mm and 220x90mm duct systems are also now available for use with Domus Thermal duct insulation. Domus Thermal is a patented insulation system which will not only improve the thermal performance of the system, but also complies with Building Regulation requirements.

Keeping the homeowner’s indoor environment in mind, Polypipe have also manufactured the new Domus duct sound attenuators with Microban® protected foam to protect against microbial growth for a clean and fresh ventilation system.
