A series of exclusive Sustainability Showcases is set to be launched at ecobuild 2018 as new owner, Futurebuild Events Ltd, looks to put sustainability back at the heart of the industry-leading event.

Following its acquisition of ecobuild, Futurebuild Events called on industry to provide feedback, input and support to collaboratively shape ecobuild 2018 and ensure the event remains as relevant and invaluable as possible.

Curated alongside leading architects, manufacturers and designers – and developed as a direct response to industry feedback – the Showcases will form a 1500m2 area at the very centre of ecobuild dedicated to innovative sustainability features.

Building on the conference programme and seminar series, the Showcases will add a further dimension to the event, delivering a range of interactive installations and demonstrations – from full scale builds that could solve the housing crisis to pocket parks that can better build community – that offer direct, tangible solutions to the biggest issues facing the industry.

Martin Hurn, managing director of Futurebuild Events, explains “ecobuild is well-renowned as the must-go event for forward thinkers in the built environment.

This reputation is built on the event’s track-record of collaboratively showcasing and championing the very latest thinking and approaches from across the built environment, and indeed further afield. Under independent ownership, we’re determined to further enhance ecobuild’s commitment to industry innovation and sustainability.

“The Sustainability Showcases represent this commitment in action and are all about bringing the latest thinking from across the industry to attendees in a way that they can physically interactive and engage with. Each Showcase promises to be a thought-provoking and striking event highlight, yet all also offer very practical and achievable solutions to the current issues we face. They will also feed into the main conference programme, which will be shaped around delivering the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and place sustainability firmly at the heart of everything ecobuild 2018 is about.”

The development of timber windows in the FIT Show line-up has been further strengthened with the news that traditional sash manufacturer Cardinal Windows has signed up to the 2019 event.

The company, whose key staff boast over 150 combined years of experience, offers bespoke windows to specifiers and installers who seek traditionally styled, timber sliding box sash windows but which come with the latest standards of high performance. Having seen demand grow for real wood windows, the firm now sees the FIT Show as the best shop window to reach its trade target markets, as Marketing Manager Jamie Hackett explained:

“We want to talk to a range of potential customers including window installers and specifiers together with architects, developers and small building companies and we know we will meet many of them at the FIT Show. Our customers include designers and builders of new homes right through to those responsible for the most sensitive period renovations,” he said.

“The event has proven itself to be the focal point for all of the UK window industry, so that is where we want to be, especially now that so many others in the timber window sector are thinking the same thing.”

Cardinal’s heart may be in the tradition of timber but its route to market is right up to date, with online ordering and a window-builder facility complete with instant quote function, all designed to make choosing – and pricing – a timber window as easy and cost-effective as PVC or aluminium. With pine, sapele or oak products based on German engineering backed by full UK customer support, Cardinal Windows have a U value of 1.5 W/m²K and are available in any RAL colour and with a range of bespoke and hardware options.

Jamie Hackett concluded: “Everyone in PVC and aluminium is shouting about their ‘authentic timber alternatives’ but what they are really doing is emphasising how much people still aspire to having the real thing. More and more homeowners and trade customers are realising this. As a manufacturer, we have the skills and the infrastructure to satisfy this need and, in the FIT Show, we have the vehicle to get that message across.”

Ariston was named ‘Plumbing, Heating & Showrooms Supplier of the Year’ at the annual National Buying Group (NBG) Conference in November. Fending off strong competition in the category, Ariston was recognised for its contribution to the business success of NBG’s merchant partners.

Mustafa Findik, Managing Director at Ariston, collected the Award and commented “This accolade gives us great recognition, as well as a platform from which to grow the business among new and existing customers in the NBG. To win such a prestigious award after only three years as a supplier is a great reflection of the hard work everyone at Ariston has put in since we joined forces with the organisation. We have been overwhelmed with the support received from NBG members, which we hope to build on in the future.”

He continued “At Ariston, we are aware of the important role builders merchants play throughout the heating industry. That’s why we decided to work with the National Buying Group, to ensure its members were being provided with high quality heating and hot water products, backed up by exceptional levels of customer service and technical support. We hope that this award is the first success of many – and that our relationship with NBG and its customers lasts for many years to come.”

The NBG Conference 2017 took place in the spectacular surroundings of Liverpool Cathedral and focused on the importance of building successful brands, under the title ‘Bigger, Bolder, Better’. NBG has over 80 merchant members with a branch network in excess of 300 nationwide, with a combined turnover of around £1 billion.

Since becoming a supplier of NBG in 2014, Ariston has worked closely with individual members to support their businesses and offer a flexible approach to promote opportunities and improve profitability. Ariston supplies its range of high quality boilers and water heaters to NBG’s independent merchant partners nationwide, achieving a high local presence throughout the UK, with visibility and reach increased through a series of displays and promotions.

The FIT Show team organises a brand new event for processors, specifiers and buyers of flat glass in all its forms.

Following increasing demand indicated by visitors to the FIT Show, the organisers have announced the launch of Visit Glass, which will take place alongside the FIT Show in May 2019 at the NEC.

Responding to a massive 40% of the 10,000 visitors to the 2017 FIT Show who declared their interest in seeing glass products and glass-related processing equipment and technology at the event, Visit Glass will become the first UK exhibition and forum dedicated to the manufacture, processing and application of flat glass for almost 15 years.

The event is designed to appeal to glass industry professionals, together with specifiers and buyers of flat glass products and systems. These include insulated glass units, architectural glass, processed flat glass for all non-glazing applications including kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and the furniture industry; and glass for interiors including offices and decorative interior design schemes.

Prompted by the visitor feedback the organisers of the FIT show carried out further research into the viability of such an event and were told that professionals operating in the sector would respond positively for something created specifically to address the unique needs of the UK flat glass industry, one that continues to undergo substantial technological and market changes. They also learned that, despite the success of the FIT Show, it did not serve the specific needs of flat glass manufacture, processing and technology. That will now be addressed by the launch of Visit Glass, according to organiser Nickie West.

“Despite glass being an obvious and essential component of almost everything that is shown at the FIT Show, the glass industry has needs that are quite distinct in almost every respect,” she said. “After analysis of visitor research at the 2017 FIT Show we realised that glass-related topics were some of the highest categories they wanted to see at the show. However, this was not reflected in what they saw there. Visit Glass will address this imbalance through a distinct, separate event alongside the FIT Show.

“With the numbers of visitors to the FIT Show indicating their interest in flat glass we can guarantee a very substantial attendance to Visit Glass,” added West. “In addition of course there will be a substantial marketing campaign to encourage a wide cross section of the glass industry, in addition to users and specifiers.”

Visit Glass will take place in its own clearly designated space at the NEC alongside the FIT Show, in a space that combines key exhibitors representing leading brands alongside a powerful, thought provoking and informative seminar programme dedicated to the glass industry and markets in the UK. To ensure an appropriate format for Visit Glass was created the event was ‘soft launched’, during which time a number of powerful, key brands were quick to reserve exhibition space. These include Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, Edgetech, Lisec, National Glass Group and Sapphire Glass Merchants, with others joining the floorplan as word of the event spreads.

A dedicated seminar theatre within Visit Glass will offer a comprehensive programme of seminars addressing UK and general issues relating to the manufacture, processing and application of flat glass. Industry experts are being consulted to ensure content that is highly relevant and current for the UK flat glass industry when the event takes place in May 2019.

Visitors will also be encouraged to network in the Visit Glass bar, access for which will be granted to Visit Glass pre-registered visitors who will automatically be granted VIP status. Visit Glass and FIT Show visitors will have full access to both events.

Visit Glass will take place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham, 21st to 23rd May 2019. Further information is available at: www.fitshow.co.uk/visitglass or for interest in exhibiting, by calling Freya Humphries on +44 7572 623457.

The revolution in indoor climate control and security spearheaded by smart technologies is the subject of a UK Construction Week seminar being given by GEZE UK’s head of window technology.
Spencer Allen for will share the spotlight with the likes of architect and television presenter George Clarke and representatives of the BRE, Carbon Trust and Sunday Times, during the showcase event, staged at the NEC Birmingham, 10 – 12 October.

He will explore the concept of smart natural air ventilation, how it works, outline its benefits and examine the findings of recent studies on its effects on workplace productivity and reducing ‘sick building syndrome’.

The session, which takes place at 2.30pm within the Smart Buildings Hub, on 10 October, will look at how smart solutions are used in life-saving buildings such as hospitals and how they can be used to save lives in the event of fire by allowing safe and smoke free escape.

It will also address security – eliminating ‘windows left open’ and the benefits of safe and secure night ventilation on buildings for optimum ‘next working day’ environments.
Said Spencer, GEZE UK’s National Sales Manager for Window Technology: “We spend 90% of our time indoors, so it’s not surprising that improving air quality inside buildings is in all our interests.

“With climate change resulting in ever-increasing temperatures and more frequent heatwaves within the UK, it is time that we looked at efficient ways of improving building ventilation which will require less energy usage.”

Event attendance is free. For further information click here.

GEZE UK is joining property professionals from across the UK and overseas at this year’s REVO Conference in Liverpool at the ACC Exhibition Hall, adjacent to the famous Albert Docks.

The event, which focuses on property development and innovation in the retail and leisure sector, opens its doors on 20th September to over 2700 attendees and exhibitors and covers a full seminar programme over the two days, plus specific events focused on tackling key development challenges for both owner and occupier alike.

GEZE UK were invited to attend and exhibit at the Digital Showcase at the conference by Mace Group, in recognition of their strong knowledge on how technological adaptations to building spaces can significantly improve both safe and comfortable passage of employees and consumers, and improve effective control of indoor climate. Attendees can discuss the clear benefits in both energy saving and increased consumer dwell time, in even temperature controlled environments through better use of efficient property technology.

Kaz Spiewakowski, managing director of GEZE UK, commented: “There is a growing trend for creating more comfortable and more engaging places in which people can spend their leisure time. Key retail establishments continue to compete for stronger consumer footfall and dwell time whilst ensuring users can enter and exit their properties efficiently and safely. Strong operational management of properties combined with attractive design, multi-functional use and innovative climate management, helps owners, investors and occupiers of these properties to concentrate their efforts on the user experience in their buildings, without the worry of whether doors and windows will perform correctly and intelligently.”

GEZE UK colleagues will be on the stand in the aptly named Digital Showcase area. Meetings can be arranged either prior to or at the event, whether to discuss property needs in more detail or learn more about the wide range of options available in new property technology for door, window and natural ventilation management from GEZE. The team will also engage in a series of interactive Pecha Kucha presentations to cover a range of topics affecting the industry.
